Ved normale bevægelser kører wiren ud og ind af taljen samtidig med, at den hele tiden holdes stram.
Ved fald eller hurtige bevægelser blokerer wiren, således at dette afbøder et faldchok.
Monteres i et solidt punkt over arbejdsstedet, hvorefter karabinhagen fastgøres i selen.
Såfremt faldstoptaljen anvendes liggende, ved f.eks. tagarbejde, skal der anvendes en line med falddæmper mellem wirens krog og faldsikringsselens D-ring.
